"History
is ours. It is the people who make it."
Salvador Allende
The Museo Solidaridad Museum is a project of Latin
American Art Projects and The Salvador Allende Arts Festival for
Peace.
The collective Chileno-Canadian experience
has been mediated through documentaries, newspapers, journals and
textbooks. These are mediums that tell a story in a supposed objective,
rational and unified voice. Who is speaking with that voice? Who
decides what stories are told? What about the stories told at the
kitchen table and the memories sitting in our closets? These are
part of our history. Museo Solidaridad Museum is an attempt to synthesize
the emerging official story with our personal experience in order
to give rise to a diverse and intimate collective memory.

Museo Solidaridad
Museum is a community endeavour.
Traditionally museums have represented
a scientific study and documentation of history. They are institutions
and often officiated by those with the means and the funds. Our museum
by contrast is an ongoing process, a living memory waiting to be realized
- a reinvention of the idea of museum.

support and participation.
